Should Managers Pray For Rain?

If someone asked you whether workers are more productive in bad weather or good weather, what would you say?

Most people say “good”, right?

But the opposite is true! According to a study of a Japanese bank, workers completed rote tasks more quickly when it was raining, and more slowly when the weather was sunny.

Why? When the weather was bad, they tended to have fewer distractions — their focus didn’t drift from the task at hand to the outside activities that they’d much rather be doing.
