2020 has been a burdensome year for us all. With elevated expectations and never ending to-do lists, it’s easy to feel guilty about what we haven’t completed.
But guilt is only useful when it motivates us to do more — it shouldn’t make you feel failure or shame.
- To erase these emotions when they appear, try exercise self-compassion. Imagine what you would say to a friend who felt bad for being behind on a project. Probably you would tell them not to worry so much … so why not tell yourself the same thing?
- You can make yourself feel better by focusing on what you have been able to achieve. Keep a “done list” alongside your to-do list, so you have a reminder your accomplishments.
- Finally, remember that the work you have to do will still be there tomorrow, whether you feel guilty about it or not. So cut yourself some slack, take care of yourself, and just do your best today! 😷
You’re Never Going to Be “Caught Up” at Work. Stop Feeling Guilty About It.
